TCM and the British Council Partner to Bring Emerging Talent to Venice Fellowships 2024
TCM, in collaboration with the British Council, proudly participated in the prestigious Venice Fellowships 2024, bringing forward one of the most promising emerging talents, Tonye Ekine. The programme marked the arrival of the first group of 66 dynamic fellows, a vibrant mix of visionary creatives and ambitious art students, at the renowned Venice Biennale — making it the largest fellowships programme to date.
Tonye Ekine, selected and supported by TCM, embarked on an inspiring journey at the Biennale, where they delved into the rich cultural heritage of Venice. Exploring the city’s traditional masks, Ekine examined how these iconic artefacts intersect with contemporary narratives of identity and ritual. Their research and artistic reflections shed light on the enduring power of masks as cultural symbols, resonating deeply with both local traditions and global perspectives.
During the fellowship, Ekine also had the unique opportunity to participate in Listening All Night To The Rain by John Akomfrah RA, immersing themselves in the acclaimed artist’s visionary work. This engagement allowed Ekine to gain valuable insights into innovative storytelling and the blending of historical and contemporary themes.
TCM and the British Council were honoured to support Tonye Ekine’s journey as part of the Venice Fellowships 2024, fostering creative exchange and professional growth while amplifying diverse voices on the global stage.
