As part of the Ocean Residency at Royal Museums Greenwich, artist Blu Smith presents a new film titled The Prophets Lanthorn: Mirrored in the Black Water, a Triumph of Light.
Bringing together archival footage and liquid light techniques, the work reimagines life aboard the Afro-Arabian ship Triumph of Righteousness. It draws inspiration from the memoirs and photographs of Alan Villiers, who sailed on the vessel in the 1930s, and whose work forms part of the Royal Museums Greenwich collection.
Developed during Bluโs residency at the National Maritime Museum, the film explores the oceanโs untold stories through a poetic lens, connecting light, memory and movement across time. The project was created in partnership with The Collective Makers, an arts organisation dedicated to socially engaged practice and collaborative making.
