Our Connection to Water Data Visualisation

During the exhibition Our Connection To Water, a dedicated reflection space invited the public to engage with a series of thought-provoking questions about their personal and collective relationship with water. This interactive element encouraged visitors to contemplate their emotions, memories, and associations with water, resulting in over 3,000 responses.

Drawing from this rich pool of data, Cyrus Nderitu developed a series of animations that encapsulate humanity’s profound connection to water. The exhibition featured a diverse array of artistic perspectives, each offering a unique and concise viewpoint on the theme of water. Emotions such as sadness, joy, fear, disgust, and calmness emerged prominently in the audience’s interactions with the displayed works.

Guided by these audience insights, Nderitu transformed these emotions into visual expressions through innovative typographic techniques. By experimenting with texture, color, movement, sequence, and flow, he created animations that reflect the multifaceted nature of water and its significance.

Water, as a universal element, resonates with each individual while simultaneously uniting collective human experiences. It holds the essence of our existence and serves as a powerful medium for connection.

This project, supported by TCM, highlights the fundamental relationship between humanity and water through captivating visual storytelling.
